There's a bit of news, though, so I'll post that. We were really bored one day, and wrote and recorded (audio) a short. If there is one way to describe it, it would be: ridiculous. Whether that's good or bad is up to you. There's still work to be done on it, so it may be another month before it surfaces. Hopefully it's still current by then, but we're putting it out regardless.

ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?!

So I just got off work, and I'm exhausted, but I'm posting this nonetheless. Forgive any stupid errors I might make in the process. While this has nothing to do with marooned, I'm still pissed about it and am going to complain. In regards to the series finale of Lost. Really? That's how you're going to end it? Could you have thought of a worse way to end it? I think the smoke monster killing everyone would've been preferable. Everything was on the right track until the last 15 minutes, and now you've gone and ruined Lost for me completely. All the mystery, all the coolness, gone. Of all the things, the flash sideways had to be freaking purgatory b.s.? You've got to be kidding me. All this time I had confidence that the writers could pull it off. But really? This is how you end it? No answers? Or what about the fact that half of your main characters get sent back to the 70's, and you don't even do anything with it? Seriously? Or the other half that got nose bleeds from hopping around time, what was the point of that? So you sent Locke back to the states where he gets strangled by Ben. You could've come up with a simpler way to do that. Don't get me wrong, I liked the time travel, but you didn't do anything with it. It turned out to be a waste. And why did you make Jacob just a regular human? You should've left him as some sort of deity of some sort like you originally lead us to believe. And why didn't you kill Kate? Kate is a stupid whore, you should've killed her. And why do all these murderers get to go to heaven at the end? How many people did Sayid, Gin, Kate, Claire and all the other people murder? Is there no punishment for wrong doing, every one gets to heaven and is rewarded for all the good deeds we didn't do? And why are you trying to force your Hollywood version of religion down our throats? It's like those stupid coexist stickers, that if these people had any idea of what Islam or Christianity actually was, then they would understand why those things don't work. I'm not trying to force my beliefs down anyones throats, I'm just frustrated with the fact that Hollywood thinks it can. BS if there ever was any. One day, I'll get over this. But that day is not today.

Look at me, I'm loling!

Video of the day

EDIT: TITLE

Well, my sister tells me that if I blog consistently, then somehow people will pay attention. I have my doubts, but it is a new week, and I feel like it, so here you go. Started some of the audio editing, and I have a picture. That must make me super cool. It's the most progress we've made in a while, and it's been well over a year since we've had to do any voices. It was hard for pretty much all of us to remember our characters, but we got it in the end. While writing screenplays and doing voices is fun, I have little doubt that this will be the last type of this thing we end up doing this extensively, and especially the last machinima. Although it's nice to release episodes every week, this time around, plan on having each one released when it's done, otherwise you'd have to wait a while to see anything. We're not dead yet. Life always gets crazy, and it'll only get crazier from here.

Also, I don't have a time frame for releasing the full season thing. All I can say is it'll be done when it's done (the most reviled of answers, I know). Man, that was a long time ago.

Well, we actually sat down the other day and went over some stuff (Ryan's been busy and never had a chance to read over all the newly written stuff, so he did that). We came up with a few ideas, which'll be cool, but mostly just decided we like what we've got for ... the final episodes! We will be doing season 2, though it won't be as extensive as we originally had planned. If we stuck to that, it would've ended up being way too long, and we're having a hard enough time right now with just one episode. So we scrapped that, took from it what we could, and wrote 5 more episodes, making a total of 7 (episode 12 was rewritten and split into 2 episodes, maybe 3 if we can find a way to make it work). So it's not super long, but then again the first half of season 1 nothing happened. It's way faster paced and the episodes will be more focused, meaning not nearly as much filler time and more meat. It's all pretty rough right now, but the basic integrity is there in full. We want to get back in the swing of things, it's been tough with Ryan having a couple kids and me getting my music ready to send out to some record labels, but we'll get it done sooner or later. In the mean time, stay tuned. I have been working on refining the earlier episodes, so as to hopefully put them together into a single, seamless video as some have requested, but if people want, I can also release the modified ones individually, since I think they'll be more interesting to watch than before. Check our channel on Vimeo for episode 1, it should be up there soon, and that'll give you an idea of what I mean.

BELIEVE?!?!?!?!?!?!

Believe it or not, we have been working on stuff. It's taking its time, but it'll get there eventually. It's all in the pre-production stages right now, which is largely due to time constraints (since the co-creator, Ryan, actually has a life and his own family to support). In the mean time, I've been bored, so I've been going through the original episodes and tightening things up, making them flow smoother and less "nothing time." So, as most of you have noticed, it's been a while since we've released anything. The original plan was to have episode 12 as the season finally, but--and this is just our reclassification of something that just happened that way--we've basically just decided 11 was the finally. We are working on season 2 as we speak, and will do an "official" (i.e. more detailed) announcement of it once we've finished this last chunk of writing.

So, to sum up: this is a small update, 11 inadvertently became the season finally so we're going with it, and we're announcing that we're going to announce something soon.

And if anyone's interested, I have a new song up over here.

-PLAYLIST-

Oh, Sleeper - "Son of the Morning"
Thrice - "Beggars"
Oceana - "Birtheater"

The Rewrite

So the rewrite of Episode 12 has actually been done for some time now, but somehow I forgot to post it up here. Somehow, in my plans to condense everything, it grew 8 pages, making it a whopping 22 pages (in screen plays, it's assumed that each page is a minute, but we don't really do things by-the-book, so it could either be longer or shorter). It's possible to split it up into 2 episodes, which we've discussed, but have leaned against it a bit. We'll see, though. I think Ryan has the day off tomorrow, so we'll see if we can get some stuff done.

In other news, Thrice has a new album out today, and it's amazing. There's not much, but I figured I'd post something anyway (though at this point, I'd be surprised if anyone reads this thing anymore). In the down time, we watch through episodes 1-11 in one sitting, and decided there were some common things about it that bothered us. So, in light of that, we're rewriting Episode 12. In essence, it'll probably be mostly the same, but it needs to be tightened up a bit. The dialogue gets a bit chaotic at some points, and some of it is just unnecessary. All in all, the plan is to vastly improve upon the episode and make the wait that much more worth the while. We have no idea when this thing's going to get done, but it'll definitely help that Phil (Shepard) will be home from his Marine stuff pretty soon, giving us an extra hand at things. That's about it.

12 and Starting Over

Ok, so I'll be honest with you right off the bat. At this point. we've made little to no progress on filming episode 12, which is largely due to conflicting schedules, other things taking priority, and the fact that there's some scenes with a lot of people in them, which is only amplified by problem number 1. BUT the good news is that the story outline for season 2 is coming along quite well, all of a sudden. There's going to be 2 parts for a large portion of it, similar to the first six episodes of season 1, though much more separation between the two. We got stuck on the first storyline, and so moved onto the second, and got most of the way through it. Somehow I figured out a large portion of the first storyline just now, so I'd say that part is about 75% done. Granted, we still have to actually write all the episodes, but still. Anyway, that's it for now. Our plan is to get the filming out of the way sometime in the next two weeks (spring break), and if all goes well, things should get done rather quickly after that. Then, it'll be a huge break before season 2 (I'd bet on fall, but I don't really know what I'm talking about). Peace.

Looking For Help

So it's become apparent that Marooned has slowly drifted off of my list of things I have time for, and it's only going to become more so. We've decided that we need to bring on some outside help in order to keep the show running, (i.e. people to take over all the editing and filming); we'll still do all the writing and voicing, but that's about all we'll be able to do. If anyone is interested, e-mail us at BurtTheSkull@Gmail.com for more details. I wrote a new beginning to the episode, and have messed a little with getting that ready for filming. Most of my recent time has been put into prepping songs, i.e. re-recording and relearning some of them (when you've got several dozen songs and don't do a lot with them after finish them, it's pretty easy to forget large portions of them), I've also got this cool little program called Power Tab that let's you tab out the song as well as write out the notation, which will be good for both remembering how to play it (since I can just look at it) and teaching other people how to play them. It's cool, though it's kinda dumb sometimes, but it's free so I can't really complain.

Filming hasn't really been done at all because most of the scenes will require multiple Xboxes, with the exception of a couple. It's the last episode of the season, meaning after this, there will be an official break before you see any new episodes (if I had to guess, I'd say season 2 will start no earlier than September). Once we complete our musical entourage, I plan to go full force into that, so hopefully I'll still be able to find some time for Marooned. I would imagine so, but I can't say at this point. Anyway, this is basically just putting something up for the sake of putting something up. I'll have more time to work on stuff end of March, when I'm laid off and have no job, so hopefully this won't take 3 months to finish, but I can't make any promises.

Gah!

So close! So stinking close! I really wanted to get the whole scoring thing for the battle scene done today, but alas it has yet to be completed. It's close, though. Of course, even after I've completed the core melody\rhythm and such, there's going to be some fine tuning that I might need a bit of help on (ie making it full; I don't have a complete grasp on how some of the instruments are used, mainly the mid-ranged ones). There's about a minute left of scoring of the battle itself, then 30 seconds to a minute of, for lack of a better word, the aftermath. It's not an aftermath at all, but I can't say anything without giving things away, so it's an aftermath. Tyson still has his part to do (and Schmidty, if you're reading this, remember how I put it on your flash drive and all, and how you were going to give it to him next time you were over there? Even if he's not there, you can always give it to Andy or Andrew to give to him just in case). 3 weeks still stands even though we're so close, just because that gives us time in case of those "are you kidding me?" moments. That's it for now. Hopefully, this will be my last update before 11 is released. Hopefully.

Soooooon

It's still "soon" and not "now" at the moment, but we're this close (imagine my fingers being really close together) to that moment! All of the editing should be done at this point. We're gonna have another look at it soon just to make sure. The only thing that isn't finished now is the music. I've got some software on the way that will make that doable, which will hopefully be here within the week, and then Tyson just has to finish his little part, and we're done! Contrary to what I may have said earlier, this episode is going to be longer than I had originally anticipated. My original estimate was 15 minutes, but Episode 11 has reached 20:46, which is practically a half-hour episode with the commercials taken out. Freaking long, that's all I have to say. Unlike our other longer episodes, however, a lot happens in this one. I'd be surprised if anyone was disappointed with this one. Just one more after this and we're home free, until season 2 starts up, which we've already sat down and figured out a basic outline for about half of it. We really want to get everything done for season 2 before we start releasing episodes, that way we don't have 3 month periods without episodes. Anyway, that's about ... it. I'm gonna say 3 weeks, which is a bit longer than I think it's gonna take, but I've been wrong almost every time before, so maybe if I over estimate then I'll actually be right. :-)

Doooo

All is quiet, but going well, over here at the studio (my room). We've pretty much decided that, except for the battle scene and the soundtrack for one scene that Tyson is doing, the episode's done. And as far as the battle scene goes, I might actually have all the footage I need. I'm not completely sure yet, though. I haven't done any editing for the bs (battle scene) yet, but I'll capture what I just cut up, and then we'll see. The only thing that concerns me is a couple of the characters in it don't really have very many interesting moments, which may or may not matter because the focus is around one character in particular.

One thing I've learned is that filming via X-box Live is not the best idea. Halo 3's recordings are a little too accurate, ie every movement was captured as it was from my computer, lag included, meaning some of the vehicles have a tendency to warp around a lot. It's not a huge deal, since the shots are mostly going to be quick moving shots that switch around a lot. We'll see. Either way, we're hoping to have it all done by the end of the month. No promises, though, because I am going to school full time right now, meaning home work will detract from the time I would normally have to spend editing. Anyway, that's that.

-PLAYLIST-

Lower Definition - The Greatest of All Lost Arts
Paramore - Riot
Radiohead - Kid A
As I Lay Dying - An Ocean Between Us
Austrian Death Machine - Total Brutal

Hopeful Fingers Cross Not

So, in hope and theory, we have everything filmed. I've got about 45 minutes of battle-scene footage to sift through, which I'm not really looking forward to doing, but there's a heckuvalot of it, which is good because it should ensure that there isn't anything left to film. Actually, I take that back. There is one thing we need filmed, which will be pretty much cake, but it hasn't been filmed yet. But we are seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. Aside from a few minor shots, potentially redoing a short scene, and the "battle scene" (which, if you didn't know, we still need some people to volunteer to help us out over X-Box Live, our gamer tags Burn the Shire (Ryan) and The Revengerer (me); just let us know that you want to help out with Marooned), the bulk of the filming is done. 11 is probably not going to be as long as I originally thought it was going to be, but it will either be tied with 9 or just a little bit longer (it's at 11:21 with a few missing shots and without the battle scene, which will be between 1 and 3 minutes), meaning it'll have to be split up into 2 parts again. I was going to post some videos about some weird glitches in Halo 3 (there's a few too many), but at the moment don't really have any way of doing that. We might do a video blog someday or something, though it's really unimportant. That's about it. Everyone have a good Christmas (and for the record, Santa Clause and all his reindeer were not there when Jesus was born, so in reality, they have nothing to do with Christmas).

Hi

Again, I'm going to apologize for the wait. I'm trying to properly balance my different projects. Sadly, this one has taken the back seat a couple times. My other project, The Restitution, consists of two parts right now: record a CD, and get a band together. Once the preparation stage is over in polishing the songs that will be going on the album (and finishing the two that aren't done yet), I'll have more time to devote to editing and such. Until then, I'll have to wrestle between the two.

I'm still working on editing, though, so don't think I've completely neglected it. We still have a couple scenes to film, so even when I'm done here, there's a bit more work to be done. I'm almost done getting together what's filmed, so there is some progress being made. Other than that, there really isn't anything at this point. So ... I'll leave you with that.

-PLAYLIST-

Thursday - A City by the Light Divided
Copeland - You are My Sunshine
August Burns Red - Messenger
Deftones

Remix the mix!

In a somewhat trifle observation, I realized I didn't like the mix of our little intro jingle. So, I decided to literally remix it. Now, I'm not talking about your typical "remix," which isn't as much a remix as a complete alteration of the song (usually going from pop rock to techno or electro or whatever the heck you call it). But since the original recording was made probably around 8 months ago or so, I've learned a bit in guitar micing techniques, not that I re-recorded, but I just cut out some unnecessary noise; I also compressed the kick drum and snare a little, make it sound a little bit more even. The guitars, sadly, don't sound quite as good as in any of my recent projects, one of which you'll be hearing as soon as it's done, a little surprise for everyone. Maybe you'll care, maybe you won't. Anyway, that's my blurb for the day. Still patching together 11. Most of it's ready to be captured and edited, though there're still 2 scenes in need of filming (one of which we can actually do over Xbox Live, so if anyone's interested in helping, let us know via Myspace\You Tube).

The Aftermath of the Beginning (aka the in-between)

So I've begun editing, officially. Usually, I wait till we have all the, for lack of a better word, filming done before I start capturing and editing, but given the circumstances, it's time for a change (not that it wasn't before, it's just that we're trying to speed this up as much as possible). We've actually got the majority of the filming done. There's two scenes left, the very first, and then the very last. We opted to make an addition, which will be the new beginning of this episode. I'm also considering (just for this episode) doing away with the normal intro and making an orchestral version for the soundtrack of the beginning scene. I may or may not. We'll see. Hopefully, this thing will be out sooner rather than later, but only time will tell.

New Beginnings

So, as with everything (with the exception of God), this episode starts with the beginning. I've got the first 2 or 3 minutes mostly edited together, with a few rough spots. We're off to a good start, and now that my 14 hour Black Friday shift is done with, I'm good. For once, I might actually have a place to incorporate a snippet from one of my real songs in an episode. I think it'll work, though I'll have to get a second opinion from Ryan. I can always modify the part just for this episode. Either way, it's gonna be a cool song (and my first song to have anything resembling a keyboard\piano part, so it's somewhat of an accomplishment for me). Other than that, there's not much to report.

Be sure to check out the the new episode of Matchmaking. Good stuff there. One of very few machinimas I actually like. And they had my favorite part from the last season in there (the killer jeep episode!).

And yes, I know the title for this blog entry thing is pretty much the same as my last one, but I don't care.

-PLAYLIST-
Lower Definition - The Greatest of All Lost Arts
Hopes Die Last - Your Face Down Now EP
Oceana - The Tide
Underoath - Lost in the Sound of Separation\Define the Great Line
August Burns Red "Carol of the Bells" cover

It's begun ... again

So ... it's been a while since I posted on here. Which is really because there hasn't been anything to say as far as progress goes. As of last night, we finally started filming for episode 11. And no, it's not because we're slackers, just a lot of schedule conflicts and what not. Finding time for 4 people to film has proven more difficult since one of us was shipped off to boot camp until April. Other than that, there really isn't anything exciting going on as of yet. We're stoked to get these last 2 episodes out to you guys, but time is a more complicated factor than we would like. With work picking up by the end of next week, I'm really not sure how much that's going to affect progress, particularly finding time to edit and capture. But it seems only time will tell at this point. As a side note, I finally beat Dead Space. It kept getting pushed aside for other games, but now I'm done with it. Took me over a month (19 hours 30 minutes, but from the day I started it to the day I finished it). Anyway, that's all as far as that all goes.

The Beginning of the End

So it's begun. Soon we will begin to construct the final 2 episodes of the season. As I've said before, these will take more time and effort than any of the previous episodes. Episode 9 was expanded to about 5 pages, and came to almost 13 minutes. Episode 11 is floating around the 8 page mark, and more stuff happens, so it's really hard to determine how long it's going to be, though 15+ minutes seems like a good guess to me. Any how, they're going to be long (12 is about 14 pages by the way) but good. A lot of stuff happens, a lot of ground gets covered, and the actual story starts to unravel. So, we're stoked to see the final product.

As for the "Halloween" episode, sadly it didn't work out as we had hoped. We're still going to make it, but it's not going to be out by Halloween. After moving and such, it makes getting people together that much more difficult, so all I was able to film was the first minute or so, which only needed one person. Actually, I have done a bit of work setting up the green screen, which is proving more difficult than I had hoped. Cross-game machinima isn't as easy as it looks. Anyway, I don't really have anything else to say pertaining to machinima, so I'll end it here.

Diez es un numero en espanol!

So episode 10 is actually close to being finished at this point. I was expecting to waste my day away with Dead Space, but apparently it only gets shipped today, so us west coasters don't get it until the 15th. Lame. Seems like they could easily remedy that, but whatever. With any luck, 10 will be done by Monday, but that all depends on how the first draft turns out and how long it takes for one of our friends to get the piano part done (just because I'm multi-instrumental does not mean I play the piano ... yet, it's next in line, after that maybe a banjo or something). There's a scene in this episode that I've been particularly excited to see (which is why I finished editing that scene before the scene before it), which sheds some light on Smith, what exactly, I won't say, but it's definitely my favorite flash back so far. Length-wise, it's longer than I expected (a little over 7 minutes), which is perfect. I hate it when "webisodes" (it's not a real word!) are less than 5 minutes, not to point the finger at any particular show, involving the colors Red and Blue, that happen to be fighting each other. 5 minutes or longer is my rule. I think that's it for that.

In mostly unrelated news, my midi controller (keyboard, the musical kind) comes tomorrow, which I'm excited for. Reason will be so much easier to use, if only Cubase 4 LE was ReWire compatible ... ah, my life would be complete. Not really, but it'd help, though I'd rather just get Pro Tools (which means I've got to replace my $300 hardware with $700 hardware, because Pro Tools is only compatible with M-Audio brand hardware). In other news, my chair is falling apart. Awesome.

So the voices are all recorded for the Halloween short. Just have to go into Halo and act it out, though not everything in this short will be done in Halo. I'm not going to say anything more, other than it's hard to get a bunch of people in a game, and then drain all their swords, and calling them zombies. That's a lot of unnecessary work that doesn't turn out as well as we'd like (especially since it'd be almost impossible sometimes to tell the difference between zombies and non-zombies). Basically, we're gonna go another route which is going to take a bit of work on my part, but the end result will look much better. Plus this way, we can have as many zombies as we need.

Working on smaller projects definitely has it's perks. Instead of working on a part of the bigger picture, we're working on the whole picture, which is very small. As a side note, I've also noticed that I finish episodes faster than songs (sometimes). Episode 10 will hopefully be done a week from today, but as always, I'm making no guarantees.

I also--and I say this mostly to my shame--spent about a half hour making a logo for the Halloween short. Here it is.

Again, I say this probably to my demise. :-)

Halloween Candy, Anyone?

So as of today, we've decided to do a Halloween special, a short (unrelated to the actual story). The hope is to actually get it out by Halloween. We think we can do it, given that it's almost 3 weeks away, but juggling work, school, episode 10, and the song I'm working on might prove difficult, but then again maybe not. Episode 10 is all filmed (minus a short flash back that was recorded, but Halo was kind enough to delete it for us, so we'll have to re-shoot it, though I can probably do that myself) and cut up (again, minus the flash back). Should have a draft in a few days, and then depending on if there's any additional work, it'll be done. It's not going to be one of the longer episodes, but that's ok. Episode 9 was pretty long, so it all evens out. :-) We've also got some commentaries (for at least a few episodes, not all of them) for when we're working on the last couple, since it's going to be a long time between episodes after 10 and we at least want you guys to have something to watch. That's about it. Or aboot it if you're Canadian.

Uuuuuh

So filming for 10 is theoretically done at this point. Whether it needs any modifications, we'll have to see until this is all together. Other than that, not much to report. If we have any addition lines for Shepard, then we have a problem, due to the fact that his actor is leaving for boot camp on Monday, and won't be home for 7 or 8 months. This also means season 2 is going to have an interesting twist for Shepard. What exactly, you'll have to wait and see, but we believe it's bound for greatness.

Other than that, I'm figuring out the Source engine and Garry's Mod for an upcoming project, which is also going to rule. I definitely like working with the Source engine much better than Halo 3. You can do more than move your head up and down! It's amazing! I always like being sneaky, so that's all I'm going to say about the project, which really is nothing, but that's ok. I'm done for now. God bless! Oh, and remember to vote. I can't wait till this election is all said and done, I'm so sick of politics right now (and always, really).

No playlist today, as I haven't bought any new music in a while and I'm tired of typing it out. I will say that Zunes are cool. And I don't like IPods. Or I-Tunes. Disagree if you will, but I can't hear your argument so take that! We're just having some down time, trying to take it sort-of easy. I've gotten a little burned out trying to pump these things out as fast as possible, and once episode 10's done, the rest are gonna be a ton of work, and since 10 probably won't be one of the longer ones, we can take our time with it to an extent and still get it out in a reasonable time.

In the down time, I've started writing some music again after a 2 or 3 month break (and by music, I'm not referring to our soundtrack). I've finally started using Reason heavily for the drums, which sounds amazing; obviously not as good as an actual audio recording, but 1) I'm not quite good enough at the drums, 2) my microphone collection is pretty pathetic (though my kick drum mic rules) and 3) I'm not the only person living in my house, so recording time is scarce to say the least. I'll stick to guitar and bass for now. Recording vocals is similar to drums, especially considering my style of vocals, but they don't typically need as many takes and they can be auto-punched, whereas drums can only punch-in if there's a complete break. I'm hoping this song won't get stuck due to writer's block for months on end, I'm pretty stoked for it (and it's in a 7/4 time signature, which also rules, and is much more fun than I thought it would be). Probably no one cares, especially considering this isn't a music blog, but that's ok. It's my blog. I say what I want. :-) God bless!

Marooned: Delays Unleashed

That's right. The force isn't the only thing unleashed this time around (though the unleashing of the force has had it's contribution to the unleashing of delays, respectively). We're almost done, there have just been a few set backs, and they keep piling up. My new goal is Wednesday. I'm hoping to have it all done by Wednesday. You should be glad that Fable 2 and Fallout 3 aren't coming out sooner, 'cause man, we'd have more delays if that were the case. It's gonna be a busy Fall, that's for sure. I had 4 games on pre-order, 3 now, and still just a few episodes to go before the finale, and then it'll be like 5 months before we post new episodes.

Next up, recording! I just wish we had a pair of small-diaphragm condenser mics, though. Monday, if all goes well, we're going to be going into the studio (aka my living room) for our "credits song." Sadly, all we have are dynamic mics, which are good for vocals, guitars, and drums, but not cymbals. The highs don't come through as clear. It'll sound ok, but I'm really picky about this stuff. Either way, I'm excited to get this thing recorded and hear a semi-polished recording of it. Then I'll need to redo the guitars, since the existing track is pretty sloppy, but still on beat, which is all that matters for a scratch track. I still want to go in and add at least some ambient guitars in some parts, just to make it a little more interesting. KISS (keep it simple, stupid) only works so far. I like the technical aspect of things. Anyway. I think that's it. I'm gonna go find that black lightsaber. A vast improvement, in my opinion, from the original version. We're pretty stoked to see the final episode. The season finale is coming up, also, and we're even more stoked to get the last few episodes done and get started on the second season. It will be grand, I say!

This isn't an official announcement or anything, but we're looking to start up a second series here. The format is in the works, but we've at least got a starter idea for now. I'm not going to release any details as of now, but I will say that (as far as I know) no one will be able to say we're ripping anyone else off, and that it won't be in Halo or remotely Halo related. That's about all I got. Just a quick blurb. And I realize that my playlist doesn't have a lot of variation, but that's ok. I'm gonna post it anyway.

-PLAYLIST-

Underoath - Lost in the Sound of Separation
Norma Jean - Antimother
Hillsong United - All of the Above

The Results are In: He's Dead Jim!(?)

So I did a test today, not quite as extensive as I plan to. I captured about 30 seconds in Gears of War (I hadn't played it before and thought I might as well try it out, since I loaned someone else my copy of Halo 3--hopefully not to my regret--and decided I don't like Gears of War), one on composite video and one on s-video. Again, it wasn't a very extensive test, but from what I could tell, the difference was minimal at best. Right now, I'm trying to decide whether I want to bother going to an HD capture card/device, or just a get a better quality SD device. It's hard to say. Going to HD really would be for my own personal purposes, since there really isn't a website that allows HD to be uploaded. I think Vimeo kind of does, but as I don't really have any HD footage to test, it's a moot point right now.

Episode 9 looks to be the last episode (hopefully) edited in Avid Liquid, as I'm going to make the switch to Adobe Premier Pro CS3 afterwards, maybe. I might just wait for Season 2 just to get familiar with it (since all the episodes from here on out will probably take a while, it probably won't matter that much either way). Machinima.com finally got around to posting episodes 6-8 on their You Tube channel, which is nice since now we get our several thousand views per episode again. Anyway, that's it for now. Blah blah.

Deleted Scenes

So we've got our first draft ready of 9, but we've made the decision that it's a little too uneventful, at least for the first chunk. Therefore we are revamping some of that, giving private Gregory a bit more face time ... sort of. The man who's died 3 times is making a come back, but to what end? You shall see!

Other than that, I'm doing an experiment (which cost me roughly $17.00), to see if an S-Video cable will make that much of a difference over composite (which is what I've been using up to this point). Supposedly, the color separation is better, as well as the widescreen resolution. Composite, from my understanding, can only do 640x480 interlaced (aka 480i), a 4:3 resolution, but can do 16:9 if it's stretched. Thus, the horizontal resolution would be a bit pixelated and rough. S-Video, on the other hand, is supposed to do full 16:9 aspect ratio, meaning instead of 640x480, it's 854x480 (or possibly 720x480, and I'm too lazy to do the math, but I'm going to assume that it's 16:10, but I could be wrong about that). Anyway, I have yet to test if S-Video will actually look better when captured, but I'll probably be using it next time around. So yeah. I'm sure I've just bored all zero people who have just read this (so technically, I haven't bored anyone and everyone who's read this is interested!). That's it.

-THE PLAYLIST OF DESTINY (and not fate)-

Underoath - Lost in the Sound of Separation
Thrice - Vheissu
Oh, Sleeper - When I Am God

Goin' Streaking

So we seem to have had a streak of crap this last week and a half, making 9 that much further off. First, my 360 died, then one of our actors got sick, then Ryan (also one of our voices) had some problems with his neck for a couple days, making him pretty much stuck at home, and in the midst of that I got sick (not that I had any lines, but it made me tired enough to not bother working on anything). As far as I can tell, things are looking up, though. I got my box to send my Xbox off to Microsoft today, and if I can figure out the weird foam stuff, I'll ship it out to them tomorrow. Plus, Underoath's new album, Lost in the Sound of Separation, came out a couple days ago, and it's rad, and everyone should buy it.
Episode 9 is already to be edited and captured (ie it's all filmed), so we're anywhere from 5-7 days away from completion (depending on circumstances, once again). No major updates, just that it's on its way and will be here within a week. Anyway, that's my shpeal for the day. God bless!

-SR. We started filming for 9 today; we did what we could, but we didn't have enough people for one of the scenes, and it was a bit short, so we added a couple other scenes that need voices done, but one of our actors is sick, so that's gonna slow us down at least for today. Hopefully he's feeling better by tomorrow. At this point, I'd bet on a week till it's finish, give or take a day or two. It'll be done when it's done, but that sounds about right, but you never know. He could be sick for the rest of the week, which would suck, but again we'll have to see. For the first time, we'll have all 3 groups in one episode.
One thing we realized we had was a continuity error with a jeep, in that (in a later episode) we wrote them in a jeep, but they didn't actually have the jeep beforehand, so a slight modification will have to be made for episode 12, but that's no biggie. We're men, we have beards, we can handle it. Speaking of, mine needs a trim before I have a forest proceeding from my face. Though that might be kind of cool. Rock stars aren't restricted from have "great, big, bushy beards!" but we'll have to see how the retail world thinks of it. I have the frustration of being a rock star in a retail world. Apparently, unless you're the one they're selling, they don't want you to be a rock star (though most of what they sell barely qualifies as music, much less rock). But we'll see. The bottom line is beards rule, except for on girls. That's a major turn off for me, I ain't gonna lie. And I say that with all due respect. Ladies, don't grow beards. It's weird and gross. BEARDS ARE FOR MEN! Enough said!
We've run into some unpleasant conflict of interest with Machinima.com at the moment, which is where we get most of our views. They have episodes 1-5 on there, but when I contacted them about why it's been a month since they've posted any of our new episodes, they pretty much gave us the cold shoulder. So I'm gonna pull a persistent widow on them. For those of you unfamiliar with Jesus' parables, I shall enlighten you. He used this to illustrate persistence in prayer, but it works for this point as well. Basically, there was a widow that needed some sort of unmentioned legal protection from somebody, and there was a crooked judge who, as far as I can tell, was basically too lazy to do anything about it. This old widow, however, kept asking for him to settle her case until he gave it to her. She didn't take no for an answer, and the judge essentially said "I don't care about God or man, but this stupid freaking lady is driving me crazy! If I don't give her justice, I will literally go crazy!" and so he got fed up and worn out by her asking, that he just said "Fine! I'll do it, just shut up!" That's my plan with Machinima.com. They may hate me when all is said and done, but if they're gonna be punks about it, it's their own fault. Especially since most of the featured videos (I won't name any in particular) on their website are just aweful. Every once and a while, I'll stumble across a good one, but they're few and far between. And while they're promoting this just plain retarded videos, they're ignoring our series, which is relatively decent quality. I don't claim that it is the best at anything, but it's definitely decent. That's my rant ... I shall leave it at that!

-MR. I thought maybe it was a bad HDMI cable, so I grabbed another one I had, and it crashed again. I tried a few more times, it crashed, then I turned it on, and what do I find? The infamous 3 rings of death. I have to say, in a 360 vs Ps 3 war, I'm all in on the 360, but this still is kinda gay. So now I've gotta send my xbox off to Microsoft. They're sending me a box with a pre-paid shipping label, so once that's there it's supposed to be 2-3 weeks for the new one to come. It's annoying, but since my little bro also has a 360, it'll only slow down production a little (hopefully). Episode 9's gonna be tricky because we have 5 people in the same scene at the same time, so we're gonna have to play with it. We'll get it working, though. The good news is that only my xbox is being shipped away, not my hard drive, meaning all the forge stuff we have set up for the upcoming episodes and all the profiles (we have, for the most part, one profile per character, except for those that have the xbox-live unlocked helmets, like Dar and Barlow).

As far as consistency in release dates, I think that's pretty much gone out the window at this point. It sucks, but what can you do? It wouldn't've worked passed Episode 10, anyway. The new Underoath album's coming out on Tuesday, I'm super stoked for that. You should all buy it, and especially NOT download it. I don't care what you think or believe, you are stealing from the artist and from the record company (who spent literally tens of thousands of dollars on the recording; trust me, those things don't come cheap). Really, downloading it is WORSE than walking into a store and stealing the CD, because the store has to pay the record company some money in order to get it there in the first place. That's my rant. In short, my xbox died, don't download music. God bless!

I cannot self-terminate

So eight is done ... Tuesday is the new day of releasing things that are not released. At least until episode 11. The last couple are going to take a lot longer than the regular episodes. Instead of 7-9 minutes (5 or 6 pages), they'll be closer to 15-20 minutes (8-13 pages). And it isn't going to be 20 minutes of people standing around talking, like some of the earlier ones (mainly 4-6). A lot of stuff happens in the last episodes, and by a lot I mean a LOT. People die, get shot, get hit in the face, talk, yell, shout, cry, complain, argue, transfer money into Swiss bank accounts (no joke), threaten, sneak, blow up, meet, separate, run, walk, jog, power walk, go to the bathroom, the possibilities are endless (though not really, because unlike Back to the Future, the future has been written).

We're really stoked to get these last episodes out to you, and even more so starting on season 2. Episode 1 of the first season was our first stab at anything remotely like this, and so even though it was good, it definitely had its flaws, which we've learned from. The first episode of season 2, however, will be pretty epic, even though we haven't written anything yet, but we've got more ideas than we really know what to do with and especially how to organize. But yeah. It's gonna be good. While the last episodes are being developed, we'll probably be releasing a couple shorts on the way, since they're going to be a lot easier than getting that many people on the screen at the same time and not shooting each other and getting distracted, much less figuring out who's all gonna do what. Uh ... yes. I haven't started on 9 yet (we actually haven't filmed anything for it, and I think we're gonna add a couple scenes in there since it looks to be a bit short as it is, but that means more Dar lines, which is always fun for me, though I have to say it's a little weird for me to play like that since it's not intended to be "musical," but it's always fun to have such weird sounding riffs and licks that I wouldn't normally be recording). So ... I don't know what else to write. Watch episode 8 if you haven't yet, and there is a secret thing at the very end after the "To Be Continued ..." thing. Check it out, or you're a communist. Fricken commies. There's only two types of people I hate in this word: communists and people who discriminate against other groups of people. It's a stupid world we live in. That's right. Downloading the demo for The Force Unleashed. If you dare criticize me for this, I will force your face off. Take that, loser. I saw the Clone Wars movie last night. It was pretty good, especially since we didn't have to deal with the original actor who played Anikan (how do you spell that?). I'm looking forward to the TV series. I hope it's cool.
Production-wise, things are pretty sluggish. I've been packing things, working, moving, unpacking things, trying to figure out where to put things, drinking the Dewskies (it didn't say that word was mispelled, so it must be a real word, score) and I can't even remember what else. Oh yeah. Watching movies. Trying to get through all the extended Lord of the Rings just 'cause. Not in one day, of course. If you watch it one disc at a time, it's like a normal movie. There. You can't call me a Lord of the Rings nerd now. Especially since I haven't read--and probably never will--the books. Take that, Alex Trebeck. As I glanced at the screen play, Episode 9 might need an addition or two, but we'll have to see, and if it does, it might be delayed even more. Yes. It's fun. Nobody reads this, so it's time to start speaking things that you wouldn't normally hear in normal places with normal people. Ok, down to business. Sunday is moving day, so we got a head start on filming for episode 8 because I'm not gonna be able to do my Sunday/Monday (days off work) thing I usually shoot for. It's a pretty simple episode, so the two scenes we did were cake, and will be to put together in Liquid. Even though this may not be the most eventful of episodes (so far, I think 7's the only one that classifies as "eventful" at all), it's got some interesting stuff in it. Some new characters, and an official introduction to a guy we'll just call Smith for now, who pretty much annihilated (that is a hard word to spell, I'll tell you, and this thing doesn't have a spell checker) all of our original characters. So yeah. He's cool. Good thing he's not a real person, though. I wouldn't want to meet him. Other than that ... my life's pretty boring right now. I discovered that my guitar strings on my electric are super old, and I don't know how old super old is because I don't really keep track of these things. I bought new ones like 3 months ago, and they've just sat in my desk drawer, still sealed. I should get on that someday. At least they're not fricken $18 like bass strings. Those things are expensive. Coated strings would be cool, but then I'm just paying to be lazy, basically, and it's like $12 vs $5, but mostly they don't make the right gauge in coated (12 gauge, with the extra thick 6th string for dropped tunings, drop C in my case). I'm sure if anyone's reading this, you probably don't care about my string buying habbits, but this is my blog. I say what I want, foo'! :-) Plus, no one's reading this anyway, so whatever. It was a sad day, but at the same time it brought much joy to me. I can't explain it. It might have had something to do with the fact that explosions rule, but I can't be certain. Either way, it wasn't much of a fight, because Optimus Prime has that cool sword and Herbie just has doors. He flapped them all he could, but he was no match for the towering glory bot. It was something people would have paid thousands of dollars to see. I'm working on getting a fight together between Megatron and Johnny 5. The winner will go on to fight Wall-e, and I think we all know who's gonna win that fight. That's right. Bill Cosby. Anyway, aside from recording a line or two of Ryan (Doonbar) yelling at Galactica (and by line, I mean like one word) episode 7's done. Now it's on to greater things, though I don't exactly know what. They'll be great, though. I've also decided I'm going to completely rip off what Thrice does on their blog (www.alchemyindex.com) and include a playlist of what I'm currently listening to. Yeah, it's such a good idea. I'm glad they came up with it so I can steal it.

-PLAYLIST-

Norma Jean - Antimother
Belle Epoque - Our Bodies
Oceana - The Tide
Oh, Sleeper - When I am God
Thrice - The Alchemy Index, Vol. 1-4, Vheissu
Underoath - Define the Great Line, "Desperate Times, Desperate Measures"
As Cities Burn - Come Now Sleep

Oh, and I also have a new song up at www.myspace.com/fromherewefall. You'll see more like it until somebody comments and lets me know that I'm not the only reading this. :-) Episode 7's almost done. We're pretty stoked to get this one out to you guys (if you guys is greater than or equal to 1). I won't say anything specific, but the nothingness died with Episode 6. That's all I'll say. It may not seem like there's really any specific plot this far, but we actually do have a plot, a small one maybe, but something we're excited to expand off of in the second season (yes, second, thou shalt count to three, thou shalt not count to two excepting that thou then count to three; five is right out). I only said three because that was in the quote, don't dig too deep into it (unless it's just me reading this, then I'll read into that all I want; take that, self!). That's about it. No cats died today. Maybe tomorrow? We'll see.

Oh, and if you like hard rock, check out the new Norma Jean album. It's rad. Also, if you'd like to hear Galactica sing and other things, check out my little solo project thing I've got going on at www.myspace.com/fromherewefall, I put a new song up yesterday. So yeah. That's it. God bless!

Cat killer

So I killed three cats today. They were all sitting on my porch, and I happened to have an extra WWII Nazi grenade lying around, so I put it between them and they went away. The neighbors were a little upset, and the front of my house needs a few thousand dollars worth of repairs, but it was well worth. Since I don't think anyone actually reads this, I feel obligated to say whatever I want. Now I may not have actually done the thing which was previously stated that I had, but what to us and to you? I'll admit that I stole the idea from the guys at Civil Protection, but I think I can come to terms with that. :-) Episode 7 is well underway at this point, but Halo 3 keeps making me angry in some of the just dumb stuff in it, right now is tied to the fact that there's no black color, only dark gray. Normally, all we'd have to do is set the leader traits to make him black, but in Oddball, you can only change the traits of the person who has the skull (you may call him Burt if you wish), not the leader. Go figure. But now we have to make a custom power up, force it to make him black, but then it doesn't seem to work when he's also invisible ... argh. That's all I have to say. No one will probably read this, but that's okay because sometimes talking to yourself is fun and completely sane in every way. I'm gonna go grab some T-Bell and work on Episode 7 some more.
